Galaxy S III Sales Spike After Patent Verdict

Galaxy S III Sales Spike After Patent Verdict

Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S III smartphone have increased following Apple’s legal victory over the South Korean manufacturer in a patent infringement case.
Galaxy S III Sales Spike After Patent VerdictCustomers appear to have rushed out to buy the Galaxy S III, with some stores running out of stock of the smartphone, according to a report from Global Equities Research.
According to a survey of 16 retailers conducted by Trip Chowdhry, the managing director for equity research at Global Equities, two Costco stores were sold out of Galaxy S III phones that run on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, another sold out all its AT&T models and two out of three Sprint stores were sold out.
Three Verizon stores still had the smartphone, Chowdhry said, but the retailers reported that the Samsung device had been outselling the iPhone during the month.
All five AT&T stores polled said they saw "significant" sales of Samsung’s device in the first few days after the verdict.
Asked by PCWorld why a verdict favoring Apple was sparking sales for Samsung, Chowdhry replied: "The Samsung Galaxy S III is a very good and popular phone. People probably thought they may not be able to buy it in the future following the jury verdict."

Samsung Pays Apple In Coins; $1.05 Billion in Small Change, Hoax Story?

Would you believe that Samsung sent 30 trucks to Apple headquarters in California to pay the company $ 1.05 billion all in 5-cent coins? Rumors are circulating that it truly happened, but the news is all a hoax that has been circulating on the web.
One of the first sites to carry the story was paperblog.com, which "reported" that 30 trucks arrived at Apple headquarters carrying the small change payment and that security did not let them through because of scheduling and authorization issues, however, a call to the CEO gave them clearance to go inside.

International Business Times described the rest of the hoax news.
The legal documents signed by Apple and Samsung did not specify a manner of payment by which Samsung could pay Apple for patent infringement," they said. "The paperblog story also quoted Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, as saying: 'You can use your coins to buy refreshments at the little machine for life or melt the coins to make computers, that's not my problem, I already paid them and fulfilled the law.' "
The story was created after Samsung promised to fight against the ban Apple placed on their products in the U.S.; Apple issued a request at the U.S. District Court for Northern California to ban eight of Samsung's products from being sold in the U.S.
On Friday, a court ruling declared that 28 of Samsung's products had trespassed against Apple's patent and $1.05 billion was given to Apple from Samsung for damages. Samsung, however, will have the option of appealing any injunction or filing a motion to stop it.
There are also rumored reports that Apple's iPad Mini release date is expected to be around a similar time as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Though they are two different devices, they are still competing in the same market and close proximity release dates might affect the sales for each item.
Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. told Bloomberg that the iPad Mini "would be the competitors' worst nightmare," though the Galaxy does offer some noteworthy features

WTF of the DAY: At least three dead in shooting at NJ supermarket

3 dead, including gunman, in New Jersey supermarket shooting

At least three people have died in a shooting at a central New Jersey supermarket early Friday, a law enforcement official said.
The person believed to be the shooter is among the dead, a law enforcement official briefed on the shooting told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the shooting took place in a different jurisdiction.
The shooting happened at about 4 a.m. inside a Pathmark grocery store in Old Bridge, Mayor Owen Henry told nj.com. The store was closed at the time and was scheduled to open at 6 a.m.
Two front windows of the store were broken out and two police cars were pulled up near the entrance. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the broken windows, nor was it clear if any non-emergency personnel were still inside the store.
Employees who were in the store at the time of the shooting congregated later in the morning outside a TGI Friday's restaurant in the shopping center.
Police at the scene were keeping onlookers well away from the store. A number of vehicles were in the parking lot outside the supermarket, along with police vehicles.
The store and its parking lot were closed Friday. Pathmark officials had no immediate comment on the shooting.
Old Bridge is a bedroom suburb of about 23,000 about 25 miles from Manhattan but just across the Raritan Bay from Staten Island.
New Jersey Transit closed its nearby park-and-ride lot and told riders that they could park in other park-and-ride lots or could ride the North Jersey Coast rail line.

Apple buys back used iPhone 4S models so u can be buy IPHONE 5

Apple buys back used iPhone 4S models

Apple is now buying back used models of its iPhone 4S as part of its Reuse and Recycle Program—a possible harbinger of the unveiling of the company's next-generation iPhone.
Assuming your iPhone 4S is in good condition, Apple will pay you anywhere from $285 for a basic 16 GB model up to $345 for a white 64 GB phone. That payout won’t be in cash, however: You’ll get a gift card that can be used to buy products—perhaps even the next iPhone model—at both your local and online Apple Stores.
The buyback program was first reported by The Next Web.Although Apple hasn’t formally announced a “media event” to unveil the iPhone or any other new product, several media outlets have pegged Sept. 12 as the likely debut of the new model—news that set off a flurry of trade-ins as iPhone owners try to obtain the best price for their used models before buying anew.
Apple’s wireless partners are also buying back the iPhone 4S. On Thursday, Verizon was offering $245 in store credit for the basic 16 GB model, while Sprint was offering $253 in company credit for the same. (AT&T asks users to bring their phones into one of its brick-and-mortar stores before offering an appraisal.)
iPhone 4S users who would rather get cash money for their device will have to turn to third-party resellers. Many such places—among them NextWorthGazelle,YouRenew, andCashforiPhones.com—will gladly pay to take your iPhone off your hands, with buyback prices (as of Thursday morning) ranging from YouRenew’s $190 to NextWorth’s $300 apiece for a basic, uncracked, 16 GB iPhone 4S in good or reasonable condition. (As always with third-party resellers, users might want to do their online homework and check the Better Business Bureau website to ensure they’re working with a reputable company.)
Users who wait until the next iPhone is launched may lose some money. Values usually fall as soon as a vendor shows a new model. Last spring, iPad 2 trade-in values dropped 23 percent after Apple unveiled the new iPad.
