Know what camoulfage is???
Camouflage consists of things such as leaves, branches, or brown and green paint, which are used to make it difficult for an enemey to see military forces and equipment. If military buildings or vehicles are camouflaged, things such as leaves, branches, or green and brown paint are used to make it difficult for an enemy to see them. If you camouflage something such as a feeling or a situation, you hide it or make it appear something different. Camouflage is the way in which some animals are coloured and shaped so that they cannot easily be seen in their natural surroundings.
Camouflage by Liu Bolin
Now look at this spectacular camouflage by Liu Bolin. People call him the invisible man. This guy paints himself, no joke, no trick photography, he just paints himself head to toe. Liu Bolin is a young Beijing based artist who has exhibited primarily in China until last year’s solo show at Paris’ Galerie Bertin Toublanc and a group show in Miami which brought him international fame. He recently finished up a show at Eli Klein Fine Art in New York showcasing a variety of his masterpieces including some of the following. These pictures are an exploration of the human nature and animal instincts which feature Liu painted to blend into his surroundings. Liu is covered head to toe in paint, camouflaging himself in front of the chinese flag, a billboard or downtown beijing.
Just look at the immaculate details in which camouflaging has been done. The replacement of the gaint portrait of Mao at the Tiananmen Square is simplly brilliant. Even people who don't have any interest in modern art will accept that here Liu has got something extraordinary. Some people called it an absolute waste of time and blasphemy of the chinese state for which he could be shot. Someone said this guy is going to jail while someone said he goes to the mental hospital. Some person said this artist is nuts while someone had strong feelings that he is awesome, absolutely fantatstic & mind blowing. To someone he looked like predator while someone saw him as a ninja. Some said that these art works are meaningful and made strong statements, perhaps so, while some were not sure what they meant. Some saw a political angle in the camouflage in which the soldier is holding and covering the eyes of a citizen. The one in which the citizen is indistinguishable from the flag portrays nationalism. Someone finds a personal touch in the picture in which a wall can be seen through Liu as if he is disappearing into his downtown surroundings. Wouldn't it be really great to understand what the writing on the wall means? One can see these camouflages as abstract art as they can have different meanings for different people. So much being said, don’t you just love looking at these pictures???
