In the first product release following the death of Steve Jobs,
Apple Inc introduced the third version of the iPad and an updated Apple TV on Wednesday in San Francisco.
The new iPad will sport a high-definition display,
run a faster processor and work with LTE wireless networks.
Apple is likely to slash the price of the existing model from $499.
The company has cut the price of older models to attract bargain.
iPad 3 has a super high-def 'retina' display, 4G, a better camera, and voice dictation.
iPad 3 doesn't depart much from it's predecessor, which is probably the biggest disappointment. Apple's user interfaces (UIs) remain clean and relatively good.
The Retina display on the new iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution,
44 per cent greater colour saturation, and an astounding 3.1 million pixels - in the same 9.7-inch space.
That's four times the number of pixels in iPad 2 and a million more than an HDTV.
The A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2 yet it delivers the same smoothness and fluidity iPad is known for.
Even with all that extra oomph, the new iPad still gets an amazing 10 hours of battery life.
The new iPad features Apple's 5-megapixel iSight camera.
Designed with advanced optics, it lets you shoot gorgeous photos and 1080p HD video.
Now for the first time, you can share the high-speed data connection on your iPad.
If your carrier supports it, iPad can act as a personal hotspot for connecting up to five devices -
such as a MacBook Air, an iPod touch, or another iPad - over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB.
The new iPad supports fast cellular networks the world over - up to 4G LTE.
So you can browse the web, stream content, or download a movie at blazing-fast speeds.
It also works on GSM/UMTS worldwide network technologies.
The new iPad offers the most comprehensive support for fast networks around the world.
It is designed with two cellular antennas tuned to 12 different bands that access a larger frequency spectrum.
That means you can travel almost anywhere in the world and get online.
In iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G models, if you want a local connection when you're traveling, just pop in a local SIM card.
In India, the tablet is likely to be launched in a few months.
Apple TV, on the other hand, will be available on March 16 in the US for a suggested retail price of $99.
